55s and so many different models

I was thinking about 55 two door sedans, and was thinking you don't see too many 55 sedans and began to wonder did they still make them in late 55 with the wrap around windshield, I remembered looking at this nice 55 from Dallas craigslist, went back and looked and sure enough it is a late 55. I did notice it didn't have have 55 factory Visor.
Studebaker sure spent a lot of money in 55 on different models. Anyone have the production #s for a late 55 2dr sedan?

Bob: That appears to be a 1955 Champion DeLuxe 2-door sedan, one of 7,666 built. I don't have a breakout as to how many were built with and without wrap-around windshields. 'Don't know as that determination has ever been made. BP

Hello there. I recently purchased a late 1955 Commander sedan with the wraparound windshield. I'm very excited as this is my first Studebaker. Does anyone here know what type of transmission my car has? It is an automatic.

Yes, it should have a Detroit Gear (a division of Borg Warner) Studebaker Automatic Drive, 3 band Trans. It should be a three speed unit with TWO shifts.

If it is a Champion 6 probably a DG150, if a Commander V-8 a DG250, all of the DG types are very simular.

These were used in Jaguars, Mercedes and others.

Most Studebaker Vendors at: studebakervendors.com should have Studebaker Factory Transmission Manuals, Car Shop Manuals, Chassis Parts Catalogs and Body Parts Catalogs available in reprints or original. Some are even on CD ROM Discs.

These help a lot with Operation, Maintenance and Repair of the DG Trans. and the Car.

My '55 is a 2 Door Sedan delux with a wrap around windshield. Thanks Bob for the production numbers, I didn't know how many were built but I do know you don't see many 2 Door Sedans around.

We have two members of the Eastern North Carolina Chapter that have '55 two door sedans. I always that was pretty unusual for a chapter of about 60 people. I find the two door sedans very interesting for some reason. Maybe because they are so unique.

Now here's the sort of thread so many of us enjoy reading! For me with all my SDC meet and cruise-in pix, it posed the challenge...hmmm, how many '55 F-bodies have I seen...? Not many, that's for sure. I think I've got pix of just two, both from Crossroads ZMs. Chillicothe 2010...a beauty...



South Bend 2009. This ran like a watch and almost silently; it was running when I took this pic, having just breezed round the St.Joseph County Fairgrounds perimeter road. I kinda wanted it...



Both are Ultra Vista cars. I find it neat that the doors from my '62 Lark would thus fit either one!

Now here is what they went with on the higher trim models, I would assume the Regal models. and Presidents. I know my 55 late Conestoga Commander has this visor
