  • Studebaker posters of Life pictures

This is probably one the 5 best Studebaker related pictures I've ever seen and in COLOR! This site has other period photos as well that can be purchased as posters. It's hard to overstate the impact of a color photo like this. I think that's Bob Bourke standing behind Loewy.

If you click on the picture you can see it even larger.

There are some good color assembly line photos, too. I hope you all enjoy!

I know he (Loewy) is the "boss" and studio owner but, it sort of peeves me that he would step in to a photo op and touch a model he has never seen before in his life. I can just imagine Bourke wondering where "the boss" would be if it weren't for him.

I guess Loewy was responsible as it was his business that held the design contract. Like a University holds the rights to discoveries made by their employees. BTW, which one is Bourke?

The one in the white shirt, looking at the back of Ray Loewy thinking, "He's taking credit for my work!" The look on Bourke's face is priceless.

Yeah, that's the way things were done. That's why at the end of... it's either Sleeping Beauty or Snow White only Walt Disney's name appears. In this case though, Lowey is frankly commiting fraud. I really feel sorry for Bourke, consigned to a background position with that sour-faced clown standing on Lowey's left. That must have really itched under Bourke's collar. It was certainly dis-respectful of Bourke's talent by his boss. Maybe a way of keeping him in his place? People have asked me if I would like to have lived in the fifties and or in the Carriage era and I always tell them, "Not unless I could be really rich as well. Otherwise it wasn't really very nice." To put it mildly.

It's the way things are done folks. Get over it.

When one is employed by either a design firm, be it architectural or otherwise, or in R&D in engineering in some huge outfit, one signs over their 'intellectual property' rights to them, be it mechanical ability, or design talent as in Burke's case. If he didn't agree to those terms, like Virgil Exner, he could have easily left and got on with a car manufacturer.

Where is Lowey's cigarette. You never see Lowey without a cigarette?
