Where is Studeclunker?

My 56 wagon was just like studeclunkers. I miss all of his antics about his wagon.

Its been a while since studeclunker posted. I also miss his posts. I remember him posting a possible horse drawn Studebaker in the area. Not sure if he purchased it?

I'm probably the closet on to him. He lives a couple hours east of here in a fast Studebaker. If I was into fishing we would be visiting all the time. He lives in some of the best fishing area in Nor Cal.

Well thank you, It's nice to be missed. I'm still working at getting Bess back on the road. However, truck farming takes up one's time a lot. Especially during harvest time.

No, didn't get the Studebaker carriages. The Rockaway in Minn. is owned by a fellow who doesn't like to answer e-mails and likely wouldn't want to work with me... I would guess.

Poor Ed is still down with a broken shifting linkage and will likely be retired because of it.

Not much else to report. Anyone who wants to go fishing is welcome to park their RV in the front yard.

Good to see you're OK. What's wrong with Ed's linkage? I just found a Champ column assy that I took outta an early Champ years ago.

There is a collar on the steering column that supports the gear-shift lever (0756-31) that has come apart, again. This is the third time now. I bought a transmission from the local junk yard (floor shift) to replace it and didn't check it before leaving. It was a Ford tranny. Won't fit, won't work, not sure what to do right now. They have the bellhousing, however, I need a bit larger of a truck to haul two big horses around. Hence... I might retire Ed. Right now the poor fellow's all taken apart and sitting in the yard.

At the present time I'm concentrating on getting Bess going again. Might be there in a few weeks. Provided of course, I can get the time to re-assemble her.

It wouldn't take much to convince me. I would even throw in the parts truck, Pickit. The old fellow has been very useful around here, however I need something a bit larger to do the horse work. What I would like is a '56 or '57 Transtar (I know... rotsa ruck). I've even considered doing a frame-over, though shudder at even the thought most of the time. I'm not that good of a mechanic and even worse at fabrication.

You know, Ron, I have a truck here that might be well-suited to your needs. It's a 2R15 (?) with a full-flow 289 and later truck 4-speed, floor shift. Sits on 17" tires, duallies on the back, and tires are all good. It has a flat deck on it, I think about a ten-footer.

I bought it near Spokane, and drove it home. It ran fine, but burned a lot of oil, so I pulled the heads and pan, and did an in-frame overhaul on it; honed the cylinders and installed new rings, and the oil consumption has dropped a lot. Scarcely been driven since, except to move itself around the yard. Twelve volt electrics. Cab floor was repaired using fiberglass, not by me, and is holding out OK. Needs paint, but overall looks pretty decent. Seat is nice shape. Brakes will work if you fill the master cylinder and bleed them, but should be serviced. Steers fine.

With the gearing it has, it's about a 45 mph truck, but it gets up there right smartly. It wouldn't take too much to get it roadworthy again. Maybe new master cylinder, and hone the wheel cylinders and install new cups, and finish the wiring to the stop and tail lights. Electric wipers, IIRC. Good heater.

If you want pictures, I could e-mail you some. I'm not into it for many $$$, and if I got out of it what I have into it, I'd be happy. I'd certainly consider taking Ed in trade, too. BTW, I still have the released Washington State title for the truck.
