1956 Golden Hawk Restoration and Refitting

I am not into racing, but got back at my "Trailer for South Bend 2012".
Took of the damaged 51 roof and put on the new 50 roof.
Hopefully more progress tomorrow and I can post some new pictures on my own thread.

We assembled the rear differential this afternoon. The axles were taken to a local machine shop, where they pressed off the hubs, but not before they had to cut off the bearing and the race to do so. I replaced the Dana 44 on this 56J with a 1962 GT twin traction differential. We replaced the felt seal in the axle tube, the bearing, race, seal and retainer with gaskets.....the whole shootin match.

Brakes are completely rebuilt and drums trued. Will assemble tomorrow. As well, will mount the front and rear heavy duty stabilizer bars and new gas shocks. Then move on to running the brake lines. Next week we begin fabricating the motor mounts and place it and the trans into the chassis. We ordered new 15x6 wheels and likewise bought ......Diamond Back radials....205x15x70..... michelin 2 1/2 inch whitewalls. Will continue to post shots showing items discussed. Next bump will have the motor and trans in the rolling chassis. Will have body on chassis in next two weeks.

More shots posted at Photobucket. Will begin to strip the second 56J we are restoring and refitting this winter as we put this one back together. I ripped into the first one and need some reference to put it back correctly ! What better way then to do another ? It is only money. Will post shots of it in another album at photobucket after the first of the year.

Dwight....I bought so many 56J's my wife is ready to move me out to the shop ! Got to get one done to keep her at bay !
