  • chicago area folks go to SB (here's some pics for ya woody)

Got to participate in Ed George's annual fall south bend cruise. as with most things ed and eddie do, it was awesome. the cruise out, (5 cars) - went to Jim Maxey's house - walked across the street to Jim Maxey Sr's, saw his beautiful pick-up and his neighbor's 62 daytona pace car clone. Jim Sr. participated in the restoration of this wonderful car. i picked up Chris Dresbach as a passenger at this point. we all headed out to Tom K's Mulberry Pride farm with Jim Sr. in the lead in the pick-up. he cranked a nasty burn-out at the first intersection (done properly, after turning left so that no cars were behind him to be trashed) i was impressed. hung out at tom's farm for a while, some money changed hands and we waited out the rain while checking the inventory. MAN is this guy organized. got in the cars again and headed to Barnaby's pizza for lunch. going here was like stepping back to the 70's (except the prices, of course). loaded up again headed for Tippecanoe Place the 1800's studebaker home is now a fine restaurant and bar. off again to the studebaker museum. always good to walk through that place. gassed 'em up and headed back to chicago. five cars made the drive. Mac's 53 coupe, Ed in the R2 64 commander, me in my 61 cruiser, eddie in the 69 rambler scrambler, and paul in his 69 Hurst/Olds cutlass 442. we were a rolling car show eastbound on interstate 94.

yea junior, that's Mac's 53 coupe, you may remember i posted pics of it last winter while Ed George was doing the body and paint work. sorry, no underhood pics, but it has a chev 350/turbo 350 setup and hauls ass. Mac and jay went hustlin' by me so fast i thought my trans. went out. and as for the black paint, there is black and there is black by Ed & Eddie George. there is a difference. thats Ed's R2 64 commander next to the 53. he painted it several years back and says it was just a quickie job. these guys put out top shelf stuff in their garage at home.

I had talked to Ed just a couple of days ago, and he was telling about this trip coming up. Looks like a great time!

That black '53 looks stunning. Ed did an exceptionally nice job on the paint and body work.

And I have to say.. That is some unusually nice and shiny stainless trim on the '62 Pace Car.

Here's some pics of those cars I took last November, I couldn't make it this year. They're in pretty bad shape.

IIRC, the 58 is a 2 dr. hardtop, the roof is caved in. don't remember if the other car was a sedan or wagon. both very rough, not saveable IMHO.

That was a good day, always fun when Ed George comes to town! I must add, that is one sweet '61 Cruiser! So were the rest of the cars! Then again, I've never met a Studebaker I didn't like.
