    Matt,
They actually caught a '64 R2 Convertible in the centre of Melbourne with a '64 two door version of Brian's illustrated '63 model.

Here's what it could look like after you spend another 40K on it.

I'll never understand why '63's without a clock or tach had the empty bezel in the center, instead of the speedometer!

Bill, that would be because ALL '63 Larks had the Speedo on the right, regardless of what was in the center. It was '64 when they moved it to the center, probably changed the speedo cable as well.

              Hi Brian,
well done on rescuing that weapon.

I always remember that car in Melbourne and drove home past it a lot when I was working in the city and living in Essendon. All the time in my years of living and driving in Melbourne, when that car was a really nice car, I had thought it a shame it was just left outside for so long. However, as you say, all of us Stude die hards liked seeing such an unusual police car in that fenced off lot. My old red 63 Avanti and that 62 ragtop I had, passed that car many many times.

Hopefully someone has the guts for the love of a Studebaker to resurrect it, ignoring the cost.

I just picked up a heavily modified 64 Stingray ragtop that had been in a shed near us in Warwick for little money and got it on the road last weekend registered, but the front end is a little dodgy, and needs seeing too to be more on the button. An interesting car compared to a Studebaker. Definitely a fun car with the 4 speed and hurst shifter.

              Well done Brian

Hi Greg, you know I am the one who bought your 62 Daytona Convertible from you before you moved to England, as for midyear Corvettes, I restore them for a living.
                Regards,

Nice save! Interesting to note that your Lark has the wiper pivot conversion that is more often seen on the 1964-65 models. The wipers on Dave's Lark are still in the standard position.

Listen here you fellow LARK OWNER, wait till you do a full on resto and see what you spend, 40k is base line for a top resto.
As for the 64 Convertible pulled over for speeding was the one owned by a doctor and the one and only RHD R2 Convertible delivered to Oz new, I think Jim predelivered it new.
Better send some pics in when that LARK lands in Brisbane, MATT!

The Victorian police department insisted upon a mirror image conversion of wipers on some 1963-66 models so that they swept in the opposite direction. I guess they felt the sweep pattern was unsafe for RHC use.

Side note here: our LHD 1961-69 Lincoln sedans/convertibles had the 'RHD' style windshield wiper sweep from Ford. Why I don't know unless it was to amortize parts production for RHD Ford Galaxies, etc. during the 1960's.

                            Hi Brian,
of course I remember you. The little Ozzie battler working a million hours per week with a good feel for cars and doing excellent work.

Well the Vette is a play thing and on the road for GBP 7k I am sure it was a great deal even for a Stude nut like myself, although I think I have to dress up like Austin Powers to drive it as it is Orange Ping and purple heavy metallic flake like a 1970's Matchbox toy!!! Groovy baby
