  • Got a 63 AVANTI- but.....

Car was delivered by Peg's last week. Looks in need of a lot of cosmetics but
basically sound. Starter made a lot of slipping gear noise but motor started and ran good.
Removed starter and Bendix teeth are ground off but looks like the ring gear is OK.
Need a replacement and NAPA may have a kit.
The headlight clear plastic covers are badly discolored---anyone know where, who, may have
replacements ? SI doesn't list them and doing a forum search , they appear rare. Repos??
I wonder if the seats are original. Looks like the car was re-uphostered black and white.
Dash will need replacement, seat covers, side panels, windshield, rubber, carpet and
head liner. Maybe side panels. Also, most external logos/decorations.
Motor is an R1 rebuilt with stainless valves and low compression pistons according
    to P.O..
Please help in finding the headlight covers, glass preferred but the Lucite ones if no glass.
    Thanks.

Usually those plastic covers can be polished back close to new. Several companies make polishing kits just for that purpose. Try Meguiar's, or Mother's, or Eastwood; or a google search.

If you need Avanti parts, you will need to get to know Betty and Dan at Nostalgic Motors. http://www.avantiparts.net/

No internet so call. They bought up a lot of the Avanti parts and are very knowledgeable.

Almost any good starter/alternator shop in your local area can rebuild you unit. Just call around. The cost will probably be around $120. Nothing special about it.

From your pictures it looks like you have the wrong air cleaner in your hand, it looks more like the ones used on the GTO's a better picture will tell, good find .

Thank you to all. I'll give T-bow a call and have emailed to Nostalgic. As to air cleaner, very likely
someone substituted a different one than original. It obviously has the wrong insert-too thick.
