Geeze, learning this just adds to the frustration I have for those who made the desicions back in the day! Why the heck didnt they make ALL the tailgates the same & include the rear gate step as a standard feature (except maybe on the Standard because it was so stripped). It would have made the model so much more desirable being at the time wagons were coming with some neat features like Ford with their 2 way tailgate that opened like a door or dropped down like a conventional gate.
