Any details on who stole it, and why, and how it was recovered? Such knowledge might help others among ud from being similarly victimized.

Not asking for the sort of details that might prejudice a court case against the miscreants.

Geez, Gord, I wish it was a jury trial and we were the jury pool! I doubt that any details posted here would prejudice the trial. The police might be close lipped, but the info you are asking for from a victim could certainly help us all. Cheers.

I E-mailed her and here is her reply

            Hello,
yes we recovered it last week, the local police dept took a craigslist posting that we found online of our tools, upon contact with the guy who had the stolen tools for sale, he also had our studebaker right in his apartment complex under a car cover. turns out he was a felon on parole and had a long history of car theft. they took him away in cuffs and we towed our car home! what a day! it now sits in my garage and we are going to take it to our mechanic to fix the ignition he popped, and have it checked out. luckily that was all he did to it. anyway thanks for the interest and pass along the word if you would (:

Good to hear that, Steve/Karen. Thanks.

What a moron, popping the ignition switch. In less time, he could have hot-wired the thing, if he knew what he was doing.

Geeze, Johnny Wipff could have showed him how when Johnny was only 14 years old:

Yep real smart, steal something then put it on the internet for sale. But you can be thankfull the guy's an Idiot or you'd never have seen your car again.

Thank God for stupid thiefs. I'm sure your breathing a shy of releave on this whole thing.

Glad to hear the car was recovered. I can't even imagine a car that I loved being stolen. And, as usual, the Studebaker community stood up and supported Karen. But.....I'm puzzled. Why did Karen NOT share her good news with us directly intsead of a member having to contact her and make a post for her? If it were me, thank heavens it wasn't, I'd be back on the forum thanking everyone that offered advise and support. But then again, that's me. stupak

I just got word that Karen got the car back from the shop and it is good to go and for sale again. She plans to run an ad in TW but will entertain offers now.

Maybe it has something to do with this $500 cash reward she offered us??? ...and then again maybe it doesn't.

Karen is not a member, nor is she actively engaged in this forum. The car was here late father's. She was selling off her father's Studebaker cars and parts. She was directed here for our help in locating the car which was stolen after she had been showing it for sale. She is a class act, and by the way, still hurting from the loss of her dad and does not deserve any derision or accusations from this forum. Have a little heart, eh?

FWIW, this car's for sale here:

Buy & sell electronics, cars, clothes, collectibles & more on eBay, the world's online marketplace. Top brands, low prices & free shipping on many items.

                              And cheaper, here:

I wonder why it was not offered on the forum?

Anyway, it looks like a nice car for the money.

Since when is a 'final chapter' or a THANK YOU note a ".....derision or accusations..."? In my book, that is common courtesy. I don't care if it is this forum or another form of communication. Courtesy has never gone out of style. And, excuses are not polite. stupak
