  • NELS (NorthEast Lark Shine)

Dick Steinkamp's Lark Shine lives on (Northeast style)

This week is the Syracuse Nationals, which is one of my most-anticipated events every year; covers the entire State Fairgrounds with 7000-plus cars, vendors of all kinds, etc. This year my ride is my semi-daily driver, the 60 Lark, previously nicknamed ol' Chalky Today I decided to try a quickie version of Dick's Lark Shine (tm). Didn't want to take the buffer to the tired, thin paint; so I grabbed some Carnauba polish/wax and a $9 orbital polisher from Wal Mart, gave 'er a bath and dry, and went after it. So here's the results of the NELS:

    Here's a "before" shot:

Not perfect, but a lot better! Just need to do the chrome and whitewalls and put the rear covers back on. Just thought some might like to see that a version of the Lark Shine (tm) exists on the Right Coast too Only problem is, 'ol' Chalky' isn't an accurate name anymore<G>

BTW, that's my home garage. Here are the current stablemates (weak cell phone pix):

It's good to get back into my home garage again. Little by little...

That's saved from the CL ad where I found it, near Boston, last year. SDC member Charles Schneider had it, and though I had decided I wasn't crazy about Oasis Green, this silly little thing just spoke to me. Charles turned out to be a great guy, and before I knew it I was on my way with the trusty old tow dolly With a little tinkering and new exhaust it's smooth as silk, and I am inexplicably quite taken with it just as is, with the flattie and 3 on the tree. Haven't yet tried to get the O/D working, but haven't really needed it where I drive it. Eventually...

One funny thing: The consensus among females seems to be unanimous, whether it's the nieces or Linda's softball or volleyball teammates: They all say it's cute and just fawn over it, yet would never go on a date witha guy that would drive it. Luckily, I've already got my sweetie... so the other girls just love me for my oddball and eccentric taste

Does look like it, doesn't it? The 'before' picture was taken with a camera outdoors, the 'after' with a phone in the garage nder flourescent lights. I'll take some better pix this weekend.

Thanks. She'll be sporting a For Sale sign just in case, but likely won't draw any interest. I could use a few less cars and a few more dollars, but I will have no problem bringin' her home

That's a dangerous statement! Better have some contingency plans for a ride home, or you may have to use your profit for taxi fare!

Yes, that's a cute car. I love my '59 Lark hardtop, but the 4-doors were a little better proportioned. There's something about the Lark that attracts the ladies. I constantly get terrific comments from women who look at my car. Maybe it's my magnetic charm (ahem).
