Motorised or horsedrawn? What a sensational photo.

Great photo. A person could spend hours looking at the details...

Turns out, that prominent monument is still there (suspected it might be) and used that to figure out where this photo was taken.

Here is a google street view of the area today. No where near as interesting!

Great photo indeed. One Question and One Comment:

Question: What is the enormous contraption at the far right side of the photo parked along the curb? Some of it is off the edge of the photo.

Comment: According to the preliminary 2010 census, the population of Detroit today hasn't been as low since 1910. If this photo was taken 1917, certainly believable, more people were living in Detroit then than now! BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

Look like they are laying street car tracks?

A friend's long time hat making company went out of business about ten years ago after many years of downsizing. There were many hat making businesses in Beacon, NY and the one that he owned was the last of them.

I bet it has something to do with the work going on in the street - with that big chain driven drum in the middle I wonder if they are mixing concrete?

It must have been hot that day - the horse drawn beer wagon coming toward the photographer has its top up to keep the sun away...

There are 2 Hudsons left front, and check out the guy picking his nose in the middle of the street, not even in the crosswalk!
                      Awesome photo, thanks for sharing!!!!!

That photo is incredibly sharp. I didn't spot any Studebakers, but, as stated above, there are a couple of Hudsons in the foreground.
