Great suggestions here. In 1984 I drove my 1955 six cylinder truck (with overdrive) to Orlando for the international meet. My wife and daughter followed in a plush air-conditioned Buick. While I spent the week playing at the meet, the girls played at Disney. Great time for all. I had zero problems, 'cept for my wife constantly calling me on the CB to tell me to slow down! The little overdrive sure loved the long stretches of flat land!

One additional suggestion...be sure to follow the manual instructions and lube your rear axle wheel bearings. That is one preventable failure you don't want to have to attempt a long way from home. Good luck and I hope to see you there. (Sheesh! What some folks will do to get the long distance trophy!)

I have only gone Coast to Coast about five or six times- in TWO different Studes...

but I don't have too much more to add that hasn't already been said.

So have fun, enjoy the trip, and take pictures along the way.

      We like pictures!!!

I have almost 70,000 miles on my Stude Truck in the past eight seasons. It has been through 9 States and a couple of Provinces.
I have never carried a cell phone (don't have one), 35 years plus wouthout a spare tire in any of my street rods(100,000 plus miles on my 49 Ford and 50,000 miles on my 26 T Roadster). Only had one flat tire 6 miles from home. Quit carrying tools over 30 years ago, as if you have them you will be tempted to use them. I dont even carry a screw driver!!! Never had BCAA or AAA.
Trick here is to make sure you built your car riight and it is ready for the trip, no matter how long it is!!
Gas.......I have run out of gas so many times I can't count them, and all my cars have gas gauges. I do like to see how far I can go per tank and like to live on the edge a bit????
Good Luck with your trip planning.
We too plan to attend our first International in South Bend ( have never been to the eastern side of the USA. Plan to leave BC going South then East across the top then down the East Coast, then Route 66 to the Grand canyon, the West to California and North home up the Westcoast. Could be the maiden voyage for Sandi's Stude or maybe the Shop Truck.

          Glenn,

I should not be too worried. A friend of mine drove the Mongol rally from Goodwood in Jolly Old England all the way to Ulaan Batar in Always Merry Mongolia on a preparation of just three weeks. This included going to the scrapyard to find a suitable car (less than 10 years old, less than 1000 cc or 61 cubic inches) and within budget (€1000). If it were not for the 10 year rule I'd drive this year with my Triumph. Check this out:

Have a good trip and enjoy the view
