  • Need a part...

Hi ya'll. My inspection on the Hawk is coming due next month, and my parking brake is inop..the little pawl is not engaging the grooves on the plunger, and not holing in place. When I bought the car I was told that it needed that pawl. Stude Intl has the spring, (which I purchased) but no pawl/latch available. If I'm reading the catalog right it's part number 535324. Need one of those in the worst way. Also, and i know I probably need to move this part of the thread to the tech section..do I really have to disconnect the cable from UNDER the car just to get the parking brake assembly loose enough to work on it, or is there any way around that? Any tips, techniques, ideas (good OR bad) and wadded up legal tender appreciated.

Ps..if anybody comes up with that pawl I'll pay the going rate, plus postage. And I'll dance at your wedding..

Would it be the same as an Avanti?

Hmm..never thought of that, I'll have to look. Is the Avanti a separate parts catalog from the other cars?

I have a the whole assembly from my 64 Avanti. I'll take pictures tomorrow and you can compare it to yours.

I believe the disconnect under the car is a simple single clevis; one cotter pin. It would surprise me if you don't need to loosen the j-bolt that holds the cable to the floorboard near the accelerator pedal and the nut that anchors the cable assembly to the firewall; never had to replace the pawl so, I don't know.

So the pawl IS there and you have a new spring now??? Yes, it's a little tricky to assemble them so they work properly.

Oh, don't worry about that ...the Forum Moderators have a long history of MOVING threads around without the OP's consent!

If you can find a way around disconnecting from underneath, please let us all know!

I'll check tomorrow, but I believe I have a complete used assembly for a Hawk you can have.
