It's that fuzzy uncertainty that perplexes our understanding.

I believe Art is referring to its becoming grainy (or pixelating in the modern digital age) upon enlarging; not the intentional being fuzzy, or 'vignetting' . The 1961 Studebaker brochure photos come to mind.
