I had a 1953 Commander Starliner that I knew since it was new and I purchased it from the original owner with that same radio in it. I removed that radio and it went to Bill Cathcart, along with many other radios, with my parts stock. The dealer installed the Motorola radio in the car prior to new delivery. It was common at that time. The dealer didn't have to stock cars with radios that some buyers didn't want at that time and they made a couple of extra dollars on the sale when they used an aftermarket radio. The uninstalled dealer price on the Studebaker manual tune radio was $43.44. I don't know how much the Motorola cost the dealer, but I would guess about $30-$35.
