  • '40 Engine bay clean up

    more to do, like the wiring, and a little touch up - but that'll be for another day...

      Lookin' good!! The paint looks like it turned out really well. What's wrong with the wiring? I just did a lot of wiring on mine. A week and a half long project... However, it works much better now.

        thank you. when i 1st sprayed the engine, i thought it was too dark, given the color that was on there prior. but i guess that's from the 71 years of fading...

        i used a pic of mr. quinn's of a '39 as a guide, but couldn't find an air filter decal that was as large as his pic. also had a "willard" decal, but i couldn't get it to stick to the battery - yes, i prepared the surface and followed the directions - ended up leaving the decal overnight, but the "sticky" on the outer paper was stickier than the letters...

        oh, well...

          Supposedly, the engines were painted dark green to hide oil leakes from the cylinder head. Odd reason, but I'll go with it...

            it's mainly the cloth around the wires. it's all frazzled... a few bare wires found, too. (temporarily wrapped w/electrical tape)

              I seem to recall that some of the engine oils used then were green in color, but those with longer memories can confirm or deny.
