We are not all that bad. Code Officers I mean. I am the building Official
in my city. Former code enforcement Officer. The code enforcement
officers now work for me. Can't say how they do it out on the West coast,
but here we don't seem to handle it the way yall are talking about. By the
way, I live outside my jurisdiction, so I can do my thing. LOL LOL

Since the old buzzard across the street from me kicked the bucket in '09, I have had no problems from the county, thank God! He always told me that it was someone else who kept calling in on me but I told him that I knew he was lying which seemed to disturb him. The more the county bothered me, the more stuff I would give them to look at, but he never learned. Now that he is gone, no more harrassment. I think I will take the storage rack out of my driveway this Spring. I put it up a few years ago after the health dept came by to tell me that the 3 wheels & 2 fenders which had been layng in the driveway for a week would either have to be moved or stored off of the ground. I put a 20 ft long, 6 ft high storage rack up in a place where the whiners would have a good view of it & loaded it with tons of junk for their viewing pleasure. Now, I am getting tired of looking at it!

Wow, when did the simple concepts of achieving a pleasant environment for all to enjoy, consideration of others and pride of place bite the dust?

I just got done writing 3 long paragraphs about the Brown Shirt Nazis from Code Enforcement. Then I deleted it. Got a little too graphic.

This is a bit of a political statement, but code enforcement in practically all California cities is done selectively. Most cities (all?) have zoning ordinances regarding how many unrelated people can live in single family dwellings. I have never seen this enforced. This is one reason why California also has such a huge illegal alien population - it's not unusual to find 20+ people in a three bedroom suburban home, which means 20 cars all over the street per house, people in the yard all night, and so forth. Or the garage converted into an illegal apartment and more people in there. But you will never see code enforcement citing the owner for the zoning violation. It's a hot potato for them. So instead they go around citing car collectors, ham radio antenna owners and other "safe" targets. Since most cities and counties are going broke in California, code enforcement is one of the layoff categories. Which won't be missed by most people.

There are also major code violations occurring everywhere with foreclosed and bank REO properties. Yet how many times have you heard of Bank of America or Chase being cited for an unsecured swimming pool, a rat harborage or an attractive nuisance?

LOL I think they'll talk to the guy next to me with the 1,200 acre wheat farm with more old tractors and trucks than you can shake a srtick at before anybody will pay any attention to what I got. And then they will have to talk to every other farmer for miles and miles around.

I've heard of that at one of older salvage yards that was here in Joliet, IL many many years ago. There is a section of Joliet that is up against the Lockport canal, and at the time, it had many a junkyard. The owners dealt in the older makes and models, but a few were hard pressed to so much as sell you a piece of trim without you taking the entire car, or lot of similar cars. Anyway, one of the owners had a number of prewar cars stacked liked cordwood up against the canal, and he was getting heat from the city because his cars were falling into the canal, and impeding the navigation channel for the barges. Now that's when things get serious, because now the cars have resulted in a major problem. I don't like code enforcement much either, which is how we ended up out in the country as well(we also all know each other here for many years, we have a few gearheads on the block, and we all mind our own business, which is more than spectacular), but just like the anecdote I told, I may have problems when somebody else's business falls into my business, then it becomes my business .

                          1950 Studebaker 2R5 w/170 six cylinder and 3spd OD
1955 Studebaker Commander Hardtop w/289 and 3spd OD and Megasquirt port fuel injection(among other things)
