  • 66 Frankenbaker Dash - Almost Complete!

The gauge pod is just about ready to go - all new switches, new wiring, new (custom) applique, NOS tach bezel and various used but good replacement pieces. I just need to paint the dash pad, mount the gauge pod, and install the whole thing in the car. Can't wait to see the red lights in the car itself.

Did you use red bulbs or LEDs for illumination??

I have a '66 dash to put in my '63 because I think the wood grain looks superior and upkeep is easier than the stock one. Yours looks good.

Red bulbs from Stude Intl and red Auto Meter bulb hoods for the non-Stude lights. I did install LED turn indicators on either side of the speedometer though.

I like the Green turn Signal Indicators, nice job! Are they just Radio Shack LEDs?

I got the LED's from here:

Wiring Harnesses, Electric Fan Controls, Accessories, Grounding, Lighting, Switches, Fuel Injection Harnesses, Wiring Aids and More!

I'm not sure if they are any different from what Radio Shack has.

Scott, your dash looks great. I'm finishing up my dash restoration too. It was a big job and I'll be glad when I'm done.

I have a question about the bulbs. My dash is for a 64 Lark. Was every bulb red in the dash red? Including the radio, etc?

When I stripped my dash there was a mix of red and clear bulbs. Thanks

                Studefan,

I couldn't tell you exactly. I have such a mishmash of 63, 64, 65, and 66 dashes for various cars that I have no idea what was stcok for what year. My guess would be that only the gauge bulbs were red while all the other bulbs were clear. I went for all red because it looks good!

Yes all '64 to '66 Lark types have (had) ALL Red Bulbs including the Switches, Radio, Ign Sw. and Lighter Light.

Most of them have had clear replacements over the years, or peeling red paint causing Pink to clear results.

Nice job!! I am in the 'parts gathering' stage of re-doing the dash of my Daytona. I was unaware of the fact that red bulbs were used until I bought another dash and started taking it apart. The lights in my present dash seem to be clear (and yes I read the previous posts). The woodgrain is a nice touch.I would like to see more pix (front and back) of that dash if possible.Once again, nice work!
