  • Back on Sandi's Hawk

Yes, other work got in the way of the 61 Hawk I am building for my wife Sandi.
But we are back at it again. Started on the rust repair last week. Made some great progress and hope to keep at it until it is finished. Painted some more chassis parts yesterday. Will attach pictures to this post tomorrow when I get back out to the shop tomorrow.
Attended our SDC chapters monthly meeting with Sandi today for a little inspiration.
Nice to talk Studebakers with other Studebaker people. Most of the people that come through my shop like to look at the Studes, but are not really into them. We do have both of our C's in the main fabricating room of my shop now, so they are front and centre and an arms length apart.

That's going to be nice Brian, in my opinion it's the only way to be sure you have a car with no "surprises." Am going to do my Lark the same way when funds permit. Beautiful Buick too.

Well here I am again. I did get back on Sandi's Hawk for awhile then my trailer "Miss Piggy" got in the way! But, after returning from a Summer Holiday, I got back at it again in September.
And we have made some progress!

Okay I have the picture thing figured out now, but it is slow going.
Car is easier to work on than posting pictures.

I don't know how many pictures to post ( have lots!).
Theses pictures are rust & damage repair pictures that were taken the last time I put a work burst on Sandi's car.

Car had sustained rear end damage at one time in its life and was poorly fixed.
So I decided to replace the tail with all new metal.

After the fabricated inner tail panel was installed and painted, I installed the out reproduction tail piece. It was definitely not a direct fit and not something I could see someone who does this for a living everyday installing.
Next I removed the old rocker and replaced with new ones.

Now to move on to the remaining rust repairs and welding on the floors.
It was time for a break again.....so we jumped in the shop truck and took a road trip to South Bend and then to Detroit. Actually 12 State trip!
You know what they say about "all work and no play"???

                              What is next?
Oh while we have the doors on, lets fix the left front fender.
