  • Overdrive solenoid help: 1958 vs. 1963

I don't have a 58' parts book, but I have a 58' governor and solenoid (NOS). This was from a 6 cylinder. I doubt the governor matches, but does the solenoid swap 6 to 8, 58' to 63' ??

I think they are all the same.

      YES, part # 1545215 fits ALL 1958-1963

#1539359 fits all 64, and likely later although I don't have the 65-66 books
#531067 (model 1118155 note in book?) fits 1955 6 Volt, and likely some before that, although I don't have those books
      #458502 fits all 56-57 only.
56 & 57? about this time late 55/56 the lockout switch disappeared, so I guess there was an eventual design change in transmission to account for the change in 58--the pictures appear to have changed in the parts book. 56 & 57 being the continuation of the old solenoid design but updated from 6 to 12 volt?

As far as the governor, no*
      1545213 58G (*for 4.55/4.56 RA only) = 60-63 sixes
      1545214 58G other ratios 3.54 4.09 4.10 +58B 58H 58L = nothing in 63
      59S and 59-63V requires 1547571 or 1547572 interchangably
64 on has a different number yet again for both six and eight

Does a decoder chart exist for matching the stamped mfr. part# to the Stude # on OD solenoids?
