A facebook listing has already been done. Local craigslist too.

I also hear that craigs list lets you post these ads. If eveyone in major cities does this you'll get the word out to 1000's of car people!!

    Lets catch these jerks.

I could see that if it was a new Mercedes or Ferrari, or even a fancy classic/antique.
      But a Studebaker wagon?
I can't see some drug lord or Russian gangster putting out an order for one.

It was in the middle of a title transfer and may be headed anywhere,
This phrase interests me. It hints at much and explains nothing. I'm predicting we don't have all the information. Could be a simple theft, but not likely. More news at eleven?

My thoughts exactly, Jack. Who lost it? Was it on a trailer? Was it driven away? Was it in an enclosed trailer? The theft could have just been for the trailer, IF there was one involved. Since the title was transferring, was it recently sold, or was it just a family estate transfer? Were there other buyers interested that didn't get it and are upset? Lots of unanswered holes in the plot that could help give a clue as to where it might be headed. More info could really help.

              Info

Here is some additional info that was in the e-mail I received yesterday on this theft. No reason to believe it is anything other than what has been said so far... Steve Pinter from the BC Coastal Chapter apparently knows this chap.

"Hi, My name is Rob Forbes. I brought it up a 1963 wagonaire from the US late last week but it was stolen last night. It has not been registered yet in Canada because I was to get it serviced at Ootmar automotive in Vancouver today prior to the Canada and provincial inspections. I have filed a report with the Vancouver City Police file#VA10200138.
Steve from the Vancouver club, you should recognize this vehicle as I spoke with you about a month ago about joining the drivers club and talking about my new purchase.

Any information please contact the Vancouver City Police @604-215-5059 or Rob Forbes @604-947-2062"

Don't think anyone but the rightful owner would be reporting an incident like this to the police.

I can only assume the Police Department has notified the border patrol. Pretty hard to get contraband like that across at any of the main points. Putting it in a container and shipping it out of country might be another story though. Happens every day.

Sorry to hear about this theft. While it's a beautiful car I don't understand what the thief plans to do with it. It's pretty easy to identify.

We came home last night after taking the family to dinner and the new Harry Potter movie to find our basement back door had been kicked in. The TV, Wii, and my daughter' cameras were stolen. The police arrived, had a look around, took down serial numbers for all the stolen items and arranged for dusting for fingerprints to today. We and the police assumed it was a typical B&E by soemone looking to trade the goods for money or drugs.

However, we woke up this morning to find our brand new Honda Civic missing from the driveway. It seems the thief stole a key for the car and came back while we were asleep and stole it. I guess they were more sophisticated than we thought. They're only material possessions and are covered by insurance but it's really a pain in the butt to deal with all the paperwork etc.

I copied Matthew's photos and sent to our chapter members and others I know throughout the country.

                        Gee Jim...

Sorry to hear about that... hopefully the insurance settles things quickly so you can get back to "normal". Are we going to see you at any upcoming events??

A Studebaker as distinctive as this should be easy to spot and hopefully recover. The only person intertested in a Studebaker would have to be a car collector and one who isn't rich. I can see this car going to the docks to be shipped to Europe or Australia but all shipping must have documentation and I do not believe that its that easy to just ship a car off. All of us here will certainly keep an eye out and I hope that the theif is caught and put in prison where he belongs.

I saw Dylan’s Craig List post, and I have to ask myself why anyone would flag an ad that simply informs people to be on the look out. Maybe there’s something there.

I posted an "I buy studebaker parts and cars ad" and it got pulled down too.

Most often, many 'for sale' sites publish stolen cars as a free public service. I know Hemmings Motor News does, along with other old-car periodicals. Therefore, I'm kind of surprised Craigslist won't, especially where there is a police file #.
