Anyone know what this part is???

When I bought my "62 Lark the headliner was removed, and the previous owner gave me parts that he said were headliner hardware. The picture below is a part that I got 4 of. (Ignore the round thing above it, it's a reflection off my counter top). Each part is the same; about 8" long and 1" wide. You can't see it in the picture, but on one long end it is bent 90 degrees up about 1/8" high. I read the workshop manual and read a headliner install from this forum, but can't figure out what these might be for. I think they must be for something else. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

looking at the small picture,

I didn't see any piece like that from the headliner...........but it looks very similar to a piece that is located a little lower than your shoulder (when you sit in the car's seat) that holds the windlace, rear passenger bottom panel, and the headliner piece that makes it's way down the B pillar, I'll check my parts stash to see if this piece is indeed what I think it is.

Thanks a lot. The windlace was also removed, but the interior panels are on the car.

Stu is hot on the case.. the metal piece attaches to heavy cardboard ( with spray adhesive) which has a small piece of headliner material (also spray adhesive) to cover the b pillar. It attaches to the pillar itself and the cardboard covered part folds over to trim out the pillar. The rear window bezel holds the "loose" side in place..hope this helps..kinda hard to explain..

Here's the pieces you need, 2 metal strips overlapped with interior material, PLUS 4 windlace affixing strips (2 each side) This is what
you posted a picture of.


Approximate location of each of the above pictured items, and then of cource your window trim (if you have a 2 dr.) Yellow area is where the metal strips go.


This is the piece that attaches over the driverside door, and the headliner in conjuction with the bows,
wrap around this piece, and are held into place with triangular barbs, (hand saw teeth ON the piece itself)
The handsaw teeth you find all round your door----those crip onto the windlace to help hold into place. Not sure your
experience so hopefully I didn't step on any of your toes. : )



Hope all this helps, people talk about having hard to find sheet metal, but these pieces are the gems that get tossed.

It sounds like if your interior panels are on, that they a missing the correct stiffeners and retainers to keep them there.

How to Help Installing windlace retainers (Title of Post changed now that we know what they are).

Those are the pieces, and those pictures are great. Now I get it. I've never done one, so this is all new to me. I thik the previous owner jsut stuck the interior panels on so it would look better when he sold it. Thanks again. I never would have figured that out on my own.

Stu...Thanks for posting the pics!! I was thinking of the b pillar cover part. I noticed Dougie said 4 pieces... I wondered what the heck those were for!!! Mine were not installed in my car either..but were with the car....looks like I''ll be putting those in over the winter along with all of the other to do stuff...So do these things act as a stiffiner for the windlace? ..Note to Dougie..not trying to hijack the thread, as it seems as we both have an interest in this one..Thanks!!

Just to hold it into place, Metal strips go top and bottom, and the Interior panel screws (3 I think or was it 4) right into the top of the top one and bottom of the bottom one. Along with a couple screws holding the metal strips themselves.

Guess this turned into quite the helpful how to thread.....Glad I had all the pieces stashed away to show it all. I'll save the photo's in photobucket if Dougie wants to edit the thread title a little.
