  • Parts want list.1963 Lark

I am looking for some stuff to enhance Ugly Betty's looks and well being. 1963 Lark Custom 2 door sedan. I am looking for a decent right door since I found out mine weighs at least 150 pounds and is not straight. I'm also looking for a 3 speed OD transmission. I have been fighting with myself over putting a 4 speed, a 5 speed or the OD trans. The simplest and easiest thing would be for me to go with the overdrive. I will also need a right side rocker panel but I can purchase one from Classic.
There is no big rush to get these parts. I plan on going to York next year so I could make arrangements to pick parts up there.
I am also looking for a nice hood.
    Thanks

You will need to start collecting all of the pieces you need in addition to the Trans. for the conversion.
    Kick-down switch
throttle bellcrank with "flipper" lever welded on to kick the kickdown switch
    O.D. cable W/handle
    O.D. Cable dash mounting bracket
    Cable clamping bracket to Trans.
    Overdrive wiring harness
    shortened or replacement driveshaft
    an operational solenoid
    an operational governor

Although, sometimes it is easier to just mount a toggle switch or "push button" in a non descript place on the dash; such as making it look stock as a cigarette lighter. Just something to consider; I personally don't like the stock kick down switch.

I agree. On my Champ I have an inconspicuous button on the bottom lip of the dash. It works just fine.

Overdrive operation without a K/D Switch

Since the Kick-down switch controls the momentary "shorting" of the Dist. points for kick-down and the Solenoid up shift operation with FOUR wires, how would you wire a two terminal push button to do all that?

Does the governor circuit still work to auto shift at 28-32 MPH without a kick down switch and it's associated 4 wires?

Sounds like a great way to burn out the expensive, hard to find Solenoid to me.

Joe Robert's truck has a push button switch mounted on his dash with four wires. I works well.

Jamie is correct. The set up in my truck has been there for years with no problems. My previous truck was a 2R6 and it had the same set up with no problems. The switch is a kickdown switch that is hand operated rather than foot operated. The governor circut works as normal.
