I have a 1956 Studebaker Power Hawk and I'm not sure what engine is in it. The number on the front/center of the engine is 1554641 and a number on the right side of the engine is 535976. Can anyone tell from this info if it is a 259 or a 289?

1554641 is the casting number for the late engine blocks, used from mid-'62 through '64. It has a spin-on oil filter located at the lower right side of the block.
535976 is the casting number for cylinder heads used from about 1955 to '61. They may be the original heads on the car.
The engine serial number is [U]stamped[U] and would be found in a smooth area at the left front corner of the block, just across from the casting number.Restorations by Skip Towne
