Bob, is Drayton Hall the place that's only half finished? The one where the paint buckets, brushes and scaffolding are still where the workers left them to go off to war? I saw an article in National Geographic on that house. Facinating place!

However, going south is exactly what they don't want to do with a hurricane coming out of the Carribiean. Especially in a convertible.

Did you take a couple hundred pounds out of the trunk for the Beach Pic?

At the lighthouse it is overloaded in the rear!

Yes, that's the place except the items you mentioned are long gone and it's not half finished. It was a functioning mansion before it was boarded up and left to set for 150 years. It's much like an original barn find like Richard Quinn's 41 in a previous post. They are only original once and this may be the only example like it in existance.

As far as south into a hurricane, I believe Allen said they were heading inland to miss it and I checked the weather forecast before I posted and the storm will miss that area. Just suggested it as they seemed to want to stay in the general vicinity and Drayton Hall and Savannah are special places to Judy and I.

              Couple of Charleston points..
Hunley is a weekend only museum..
Charleston is only a couple of hours from Savannah.
Brooklet is only 35 minutes from Savannah.
I need help moving my crap from one side of the shop to the other side so they can pour the rest of the concrete.
Open bar, and free BBQ this long weekend <g>

If you are continuing south, let me recommend Charleston,SC with the harbor having the Yorktown, confederate sub Hanley and a ton of old homes. Then you could venture to our favorite town (Savanah, Ga) which is full of great old homes and history and is still on the coast.

Oh man, those last two pix are gorgeous! The second lighthouse one immediately became my monitor wallpaper, even though it got blurry in the process Would love a higher-res copy of that one...

Bob. I would be happy to send you a big picture file of that second shot... I was totally upset on the first lighthouse picture that could not get around to the other side of it. We arrived at about 5 pm and the sun was facing us. Got lucky with the second picture that no one was in parking lot and the sun was just right. The lighthouse residence with the red roof just makes that picture with the red Lark.

That would be great! As you know, it's one of my dream cars. It amazes me how the car hits that red roof, and even the two orange cones just perfectly!

Glad you're having a good time. You've sure paid your dues, going back to your GT engine debacle. Enjoy- and if you come back through central NY Let me know!

                          Allen,

I don't know which direction you are heading next, or when you're heading back north. But, this weekend there is an annual SDC gathering at Chautauqua Institution located on Lake Chautauqua in western New York. We will be there from Friday through Sunday, staying at Carey Cottage. The regular crowd includes members from PA, OH, NY, and some folks from Ontario, as well. It's always a great time. If this might fit into your plans, let me know and I can provide additional details.
Welcome to Chautauqua Institution! We are a community of artists, educators, thinkers, faith leaders and friends dedicated to exploring the best in humanity.

Ocracoke Island, site of that beautiful second lighthouse picture, is under mandatory evacuation as of this morning. Going south or west from the banks is a good bet. We are 100 miles west of Morehead City and are not even expecting rain from Earl. The Raleigh area too, is not expecting any storm related weather. Of course this all is dependent on a turn to the north at the right time. My daughter lives south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina near Pawleys Island and is under now watches at all. If it were me I would be heading quickly west or south. Remember, if you have time the Blue Ridge Parkway through North Carolina and Virginia is a beautiful, if not speedy, drive. Asheville, NC, is a great place to visit with lots to do.

I envy you two for your Studebaker adventure. Good Luck as you continue on. Be Safe and have Fun!

Neither do we, LOL! but we may have a better idea after a cup of Coffee and some Breakfast this morning. We decided to take another night on Orcacoke Island just to be able to say they KICKED us off the Island, How often can you say that?

I think it is most promising that we will get off Orcacoke Island and hit the beach on the other side. Check out another lighthouse, check a map and start heading inland. Thanks for the info Joe, we may just check out Asheville NC.
