  • 63/64 GT trunk badge

Can anyone advise re the trunk badge being made all in white with a gold Hawk emblem vs the normal red, white & blue?
    Thanks,

The ONLY new vehicle to sport the white trunk emblem was the 6 cylinder GT (63 and 64) assembled in Belgium.

      Thanks Art,
This one appears to be NOS, althought it has a few almost invisible marks on it..
Do we have any production numbers on Belgium assembled 6 cylnder GT's?
Any connection to the legendary 'White Hawk" we some times hear mentioned, althought I do not know what that is/was ?
      Thanks,
      Barry

        Hi Barry--

The White Hawk was one of the original pair of '62 GT show cars; the other was the Black Hawk, which had the colours reversed...the White Hawk would have resembled your '64 in its colour scheme, overall white exterior with black roof and interior. At least that's what I remember reading in an article about the GT's development years ago. The article included an artists's rendering of the White Hawk.

          Thanks Steve,
Now that you clarify it, I can recall seeing a write up on these show Hawks ..just wasn't in my current memory banks, Maybe the white badge would look pretty good on my Hawk, certainly not original, but would fit the color scheme, eh?..

I have one of those white badges with a gold bird. I always thought it looked up in the parts book as a Canadian GT Hawk........ Thanks Art.

NEVER a Canadian GT Hawk even though Dennis used to think so.

Barry, Exchanged emails with Art Unger a few years ago & concluded the white variety was for Canadian 6 cyl cars. Had not heard of the Belgium origin previously. I do have a NOS one on display in my memorabilia room. Jim.

I spoke with Stu Chapman at our Hamilton Chapter meeting tonight about the white trunk badge.

Stu advises that 1963 and 1964 GT Hawks shipped from Hamilton 'knocked down' to Belgium for final assembly included a white trunk badge. He didn't recall the specifics of being restricted to 6 cylinder cars only.

Thanks Jim for your input on having an NOS white badge, that gives us 3 survivors so far..

I am going to try contacting a previous Hamilton Studebaker employee who may have production info on Canadian made GT's..
