  • Lets play another round of...Spot the Stude!

A couple weeks ago, I went to the biggest car show in my area (Kearney NE). Over 450 cars were registered, but there was only ONE that claimed to be a Studebaker (no, it wasn't mine). It is a "rat rod", so the South Bend heritage won't be very obvious. Can you tell which one it is?

    #1

    #2

    or #3

I will reveal the correct answer in a day or so, along with the "proof" that its a Studebaker.

I'm going to go with #1. I bet I'm missing a obvious clue, but that looks like the closest.

      Studebaker?

Yeah it's probably a trick question, it's the little white econo box for sale!

Must have a Studebaker bumper sticker!

I thought about the FOrum when I took these pictures, but I didn't get around to doing anything with them. Then yesterday, I made an outright nasty reply to a "car farmer" in another thread (I was mad, ok? I still don't like him either.) Anyway, another forum member responded with the following:

If a member can build a Model N from scrap on the ground -Then someone can make a fine Hotrod outta this . . . . . . . " NOT too original but Hotrod " . .
The correct answer on my quiz is...#2 "Rat Trax". This is supposedly a 1928 (29?) Studebaker firewall, cowl and doors. I have no way of knowing for sure whether all this is true, but its clear that this guy has A LOT of fun building something out of nothing. What's more, he did a fair job of it. Its a REAL rat rod, like it or not. My apologies to any and all car BUILDERS out there who have the ability to take a few sheets of rusty metal and build a car around them. I hope you do it the same way this guy did. He claims to have pulled the car out of a gully in the Wyoming desert! I believe him, too. He didn't pay $1500 for it, though, thats for sure!

Stand tall ratrodders! The old car hobby is your hobby, too!

Here's a couple more pics of the interior.

The second picture shows a body tag(?) that the owner said was on the driver's doorpost. I don't think that there's a serial number on it. It just says "Body built by Studebaker".

                  PS

I forgot to mention that number 1 is mostly a 1928 Nash (some Willys parts). #3 is a 1950 Mercury with some Buick (?) grill pieces. All orphan ratrods!
