I've always felt that the major difference between today's cars and yesterday's is that now, cars are manufactured -- where they used to be made. Subtle linguistic difference, but is has to do with the human touch. One is assembled by machine; the other by men. I think it's the humanity that lacks in today's perfect automobiles.

I think the word you've all been describing is "Fahrvergnugen" (pretend theres an umlaut above that U).
The way the clutch pedal feels to your foot (going thru the floor, rather than pivoting above), the starter button, the suicide doors, the reactions from the public....all those little sensations add up to our "driving experience".
