My overdrive will not engage. I have tried the various suggestions in the manual and those offerred on the forum to no avail. I noticed that there is an overdrive "book" for sale in TW. Has anyone used one of these manuals and will it give me any more information than what the manual has given me.

If the solenoid clicks when connecting it per the chart (tree) and all electrical tests pass, it has to be internal mechanical. Always check that the O.D. lever is all the way back as far as it goes ON THE TRANS. not just under dash, to fully engage O.D.

The Studebaker Manual is very complete, I don't think it could get any better. It is mostly a compilation of the Manual data if I recall.

THe North Georgia Chapter of the SDC has a copy of a Borg-Warner overdrive manual online

I'm not sure whether this is the manual you are referring to or not. It has some interesting information about the design and operation of the overdrive system, but not a lot of technical data.
