Video footage of vent wings being stolen from '36 Stude in Glendale, AZ

I went through all 175 of my pictures and no luck at all . The trouble is we all try to take pictures of the cars with no one around them , thats why I was out at 6 am taking pictures. Hope someone can come through .

The video is all the camera caught, or its all the Glendale PD forwarded to me. To me, in the one video, just bebore the camera aimlessly wanders off, it looks like he is working as fast as he can to get the vent wing off (1 top screw, 2 bottom screws each side), then later he is seen rolling up the window,wiping prints off the D/S handle and passenger side glass, but he forgot to clean the driver`s side glass and door (apparently he tride to remove the screws with the window up, nearly impossible, I`ve tried) and left hand and arm prints on the glass and door frame. I am now looking for someone who can enlarge and enhance this guy`s image, any suggestions in that area would be very helpful.

I almost hate to say this, but I believe in communication. My 1940 President had door locks, doesn't this 1936 have door locks? From what I read, if the car was locked, it would have been "nearly impossible" to remove the vents/wings. Of course, we shouldn't have to lock our cars at a Studebaker meet and this does not in any way say that I excuse the rotten theif, just that we are now living in a 2010 world.

Some of those cars in Glendale were unable to be locked, such as the pre-war tourings and roadsters. I know at SDC meets, the removal of vulnerable items such as radiator mascots is highly recommended despite good security at these meets, but these vent-wings are from the "whodda-thunk" department. Unless they can be made to fit any other mid-thirties car, streetrod or otherwise, I don't think anyone, including Sam would have ever suspected them being stolen. Its unfortnate, but its also unfair to blame the owner for leaving the car unlocked; especially when the moveable glass itself is outside the roll-up door glass.

Enlarging the images.....if your local young computer savy people can't help, try the local radio or tv stations. They probably don't have time, but they will probably be able to point you to someone who can help.

I doubt locking the car would have stopped this guy. I quit locking my cars after spending more replacing glass than the stolen items were worth.

An observation and a bit of a rant

One thing that has sort of bugged me since the beginning of this thread. Those who are skeptical of the person's guilt and lack of discernible proof of the guy taking the vent wings do have a point. However, it really bugs me that he is actually touching the car in the first place. Even if you were with me at your car, I wouldn't dream of touching your car without your permission. On these older cars, there is often little quirks and kinks that only the owner knows. The unseen window crank gear that requires that "special touch" to keep the window from binding, or the door handle that needs a slight jiggle to open are examples. I have seen vent windows cracked because someone forced them, not knowing that they hadn't been moved in years. How many have seen hood corners "bent" because the person opening didn't know that the particular hood required a slight tug forward as it was opened? The fact that this person is opening the door shows a complete lack of respect and in my opinion is at least "trespassing."

I agree with you John .....evryone here know this is the guy and if anything he needs to be taken down the back ally to have some reajusting on him.....guess I'm from the old school .
