Well Milaca, I'm paying $500 for the '58 truck. It was a daily driver and "ran when parked" a year and a half ago, but it definately will not start now. It turns over tho, and the reason for parking it was the rear suspension bushings are shot. Lots of surface rust, but nothing too serious looking. It is missing a lot of chrome bits, and I have no idea how hard they are to find.

What's it worth? (OR "Is this a parts car?")

That is a unique bed on that truck. If the missing chrome bits are for that bed, they will be very difficult to find.KURTRUK

Good going Ron Johnston! I read somewhere that all of them were 1957 models but that some were carried over as 1958 models being that they didnt sell well. They were introduced in March of 1957 and came standard with gold and white two-tone paint and the same colors were used inside. This was the first IH pickup to offer metallic paint. Options included a Black Diamond 240 cubic inch 6-cylinder (220 was standard), power steering, power brakes, limited slip differential, overdrive manual transmission or a three speed automatic transmission. The cab on these pickups were offered on pickups until 1968 and on trucks up until 1977 (mostly Loadstar trucks) in the United States but were available on Mexican and Turkish built trucks until 1985 or so. One other point of interest, compare the dash gage cluster in it to the dash gage cluster used in the prototype Studebaker flat nosed pickup that resides in the museum....it's the same.sigpic

Yeah, I grew up with International pickups and trucks as that is what my dad bought being that he could get them for cheap. I still have the aqua & white 1957 A-100 IH stepside that he bought used in around 1971. It's on my 'to do' list for restoration. I currently need to replace the fuel pump and find a front bumper for it. I replaced the engine with a 220 Silver Diamond engine (from a 1954 IH) and put a rebuild kit in it many years ago with the help of a neighbor/mechanic. Please keep me up to date with it as I find it very interesting.sigpic

Interesting Binder discussion. Like so many, I have lots of experience/memories with IH. I have a 1950 short school bus that my cousin had converted into a race chaser/camper. He blew the engine (silver diamond?) decades ago but never got around to finding another. Still sits out back with a 59 Chevy Biscayne on the roof
I had several over the years but have very little IH mechanical-specific experience with them since they almost never needed any mechanical repairs. Like so many, the bugaboo was their awful propensity towards rust- almost as bad as Studes.
I do look at Binders on eBay every week. I could be seriously tempted by just the right Travellall.....Proud NON-CASO

Ron--
Get it. Fix it. Drive it. You'll have a ball. That car is a twin to mine except it has O/D and is painted a different colour. Even though I'm out of a job now (more or less), I'm scheming ways to hang onto my '62 2dr post...she's too much fun to let get away!

The cabs for International pickups were primarily designed for heavy trucks. I think the 1957-58 A-series pickups are very stylish and am amazed that I never see them at car shows. I hope to make it to Colorado when they have the big Studebaker meet and visit Studebaker Steve's place (if he doesnt mind) and see what he all has. I would like to see Starlight Studebaker's worldwide base of operations also. By the way Lori, do you have any authentic upholstery for International Harvestors? My '57 needs vinyl covered door panels and turquoise cloth seat upholstery.sigpic
