Trip in '51 Commander (pix)

Saturday our family took its annual trip to Dayton, Wa., which is about 150 miles from Yakima. Besides having friends in Dayton, the "All Wheels Weekend" car show is great; a nice variety of vehicles, and the whole town gets involved!

yup, my youngest daughter alway wants to drive my Stude...she even asked to take it out by herself last weekend...I just laughed as it took my Dad 40 something years before he let me drive his Stude, so I told her she was fortuate to drive my car at 16 years of age. She ended up doing the next best thing, her friend pick her up in her Dad's sweet 66 Corvair 2door hardtop and they tore-up the city in it Sat. night. Junior.

Junior, you're too dang mean!! Let her drive it! My dad let me drive our Studebaker when I was 16. Dates, school, church, everywhere. Oh, wait, that car was our family car by then. We had a '64 Daytona that I was restricted with. Oh, well, I get to drive it now without permission.

oh she drives it, but with me in it... in fact we took it out today for father's day, even made her park it in the garage, something she didn't want to do because the car has no power steering (or brakes)...these young kids today are so spoiled, ps, pb, even a cd in her personal car...living the high life. Got to give her credit, she did a good park job, and her personal car is a standard, something most young drivers have no concept of. Junior

It's kinda funny thinking about "letting go" of the Stude; I get nervous when either of my daughters drives the '51, then I remember my 80 year old Grandmother driving her '52 Champion (back in the 60s), and have to remind myself that everyone drove cars like these back in the day and it was no big deal! Granted the traffic is such nowadays that one has to drive very defensively!
