  • 51 commander buisiness coupe

Ive always heard there was only one built. And it's wereabouts are unknown. I recently talked to a guy who claims to have a 51 B.C. With a 52 front end and a V8 3spd overdrive. I also thought there were no 52 B.C. Built. I will go look at it maybe tomarrow. And have more info. But what can you guys tell me to look for in advance. This car was like an urban legend. I've heard about it for YEARS. It was sitting in the showroom of an old Stude dealership for over 30 years until it dissapeared about 5 years ago now the new owner is selling and it surfaced. The guy claims it is a commander and it is a V8. Am I correct that a champion would only have had a champ 6? He claims the original owner had the front clip changed in 52 becuase he didn't care for the bullet nose.

That is the Klimet Bros Stude. There was another thread on that car within the last week or two I think.

John, the clue is that the BODY TAG FIRST DIGIT is going to read 10G=Champion, if it actually were a '51 Commander which I doubt, it would say "H".

That would be followed by a Q1, Q2 or Q4 for a Deluxe, Regal or Custom Business Coupe.
Don't ask why the names and numbers go backwards, I don't know but I did check BOTH Body AND Chassis for a typO ! Anyway a Business Coupe IS a "Q" Body Type.
If it is a fake, it would most likely NOT have a Body tag.

I'd say it is a Q-1 or Q2 with the stainless gravel guards, My 51 Q-4 has none.

Guess it had to happen. Imagine if all the guys putting '51 bullet nose clips on '52 hardtops could get together with the guys putting '52 clips on '51 cars . . . . then everybody is happy, no parts wasted, no money changes hands. Second Law of Thermodynamics at work!
