  • Rare Studebaker (sort of) Model Kit

I stopped at the local Hobby Town toy store this morning after washing the dog at a nearby shop.
Along with the new plastic kits they sell some old unbuilt kits they must get from private collections or someplace.

They had a 1950s Mongram 1/12th scale kit of the Wright cyclone aircraft engine.
Of course, they were also license built by Studebaker.

It looks to be the original unbuilt 1950s kit (I believe they re-issued it in the 70s with a different box) and it looked to be in good shape.
    They're asking $50 for it.

Here's a link to a online old model kit dealer so you can see what I'm talking about.

    Notice their asking price...$250.
Makes the store's price look pretty good.

    Here's the store's contact information:
    Hobbytown USA
    9324 N Division St
    Spokane, WA 99218

    (509) 465-3267

I have no financial interest in this...just thought some of you Stude model & toy collectors might be interested since it's rare and seems to be offered at a relatively good price. I don't think you'll find it any cheaper.

You know, I saw this thread and it reminded me of an unbuilt model kit from the 60's that I saw a few months ago in an antiques/collectables store of a Weasel. They wanted only 15 bucks for the thing and darn if I didn't pick it up. I went back to the same shop last week with the full intention of getting it if I saw it again, and of course, it was already snatched up!

I'll bump this so the folks returning from Glendale can see it...I know there are a lot of Studebaker model & toy collectors out there.
