  • Is this a HD generator?

This is the generator on the 61 Lark 2Dr I recently bought with a Clover Leaf engine.

I've read about the HD generators here on the forum but have never seen one. There was a break in the rain today so I started getting things back together on the Lark to get it running.

It sure does look like one, is that on a Police Car, Taxi or H.D. Sedan?

That sure looks like the heavy duty generator, the stock one is not as large and should be a Delco just like in the same period GM cars. Bud

I was surprised to see a beefy generator like this one. Was expecting a standard Delco. The clover leaf is a full flow so it to new for the car. Unless its a HD lark that had its engine replaced with another and the full flows were available.

Rich, Is there a way to tell if its a HD sedan other than the build sheet? It does have a tall stance. The doors have red showing through a repaint. But I wasn't sure if was factory over spray from the inside red paint?

          Here's an EC unit-heavy duty:

Nice generator. Looks like a Delco tag on it. I was curious today at work. I looked up the bearings for the HD generators in the Napa book. Looks like the right size for the gen that I have. I'l have to pop the rear support to confirm it though.

              EC vs. HD

In my Truck parts book, there is a distinct difference between EC (early cut in) and HD generators. Generally speaking, HD generators use the same mounts as the standard generator, whereas the EC models have a different mounting bracket. Have not checked on the car models but I have verified this info for trucks.

That's for sure, Mark. This one (EC) has a bigger mounting bracket and adjustment Y-bracket and bolts. Very different. Still considered heavy duty, I think, but certainly not the same as that one pictured above. I think this EC would be better suited for a truck as heavy as it is, but it is listed for many other applications.
