  • Studebaker Dealerships

    Hello everyone!

This time I am seeking some information on the orgin of my vehicle. When I bought the car, it still had 63' california license plates on it along with to chrome dealership frames around the plate. They say: Helton Motors Auburn on both of them. I am assuming that this is Auburn, California. When I went on the web to look up some information on what kind of dealership this was, I found no trace of a Helton Motors in Auburn (or anywhere else in that case).

What I would like to have, is any information about any Studebaker Dealerships in California or anywhere else. If there is a list or if anybody that lives in Auburn, California by any chance might be able to tell me more about the car's stomping grounds it would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Yes, there was a Helton Motors in Auburn, California. I do not have a street address only their P.O. Box number in 1965. The dealer code was 4598 which would indicate that they were granted their franchise very late...probably in 1963. A call to the local library's research dept. would probably get a street address for you. You can also get a copy of the dealer franchise record by contacting the Studebaker National Museum. The cost is $25. If you need an address check out their website.

As usual, Richard Quinn came through with an excellent response. You don't say what car that you are researching, but if it is a '61 Lark, as indicated by your handle, then the car was probably sold used by Helton since their franchise is later than when the car was new. I guess that you would have to go further to find your car's starting point (other than being built in South Bend or Hamilton <G&gt. Where does the car's build sheet say that the car was shipped to?

You can order the build sheet from the Studebaker National Museum. Go to their store on their web site.

Is there any way to find information on particular Studebaker dealerships. Like one in Toccoa, Ga. where my Stude. was originaly purchased. Thanks,

I looked at the museum site and couldn't find how to get a build sheet. Can you tell me more? Thanks Tom

Look under Shop at the bottom of the home page.

I just ordered one today for my "new" 59 Scotsman truck.

Is it just me or did the price for the build sheet increase to $40.00 now.

Well, there WAS a time - maybe 10 er 12 er 15 years ago - when you could get a copy of the PO for 10 or 15 bucks! But the times and the fate of the PO files have changed.
