I just received my annual entry forms for the Newport Hill Climb for September 30 and October 1. Part of the info stated that Dennis Gage and crew would be there on Saturday for filming for "MY CLASSIC CAR" on Speed TV. ( He picked a dumb day as the big car show and the hill competition will be Sunday.[xx(])
The July 06 issue of Hemmings Motor News had a nice story "Hoosier Hill Happiness" on last year's Newport event with some color pictures. There was even a Studebaker shown, albeit a very long range shot. It was Wayne Remaly climbing the hill in his 1938 President. Probably nobody but Wayne would have quickly spotted it as the picture was small but hey, Wayne and his Studebaker made a national publication.
Those that consider the Newport Hill Climb stickers an eyesore should kindly remember that they are badges of honor to the owners and represent their effort to promote the cars.
If you are "near" middle Indiana/Illinois you might consider the event-- Unfortunately, it is at the end of Omaha International week. So that has to be factored in. The Studebaker representation at the event has grown each year but the clash of schedules may cause a bit of a drop in Stude participation this year. Hemmings lists the attendance at 150,000 but don't let that dissuade you as it has a mannerly and family atmosphere.
Studebakers made in 1955 or earlier may compete in the Hill Climb.
There is a class for everyone and the points system will make your Studebaker competitive.
All Studebakers are eligible for the show event but you need to enter and arrive early as the town can only hold so many cars.
If you get interested [u]www.newporthillclimb.com</u> will have the rules, entry forms, schedule, fees, etc.

this annual event generates. My brother has occasion to examine municipal services around the state of Indiana. He reports Newport being the only County Seat in Indiana without a central water & sewer system...septic tanks (or ???) throughout! [:0] Now if that isn't "down home," I don't know what is. Time hasn't passed by Newport IN, but it sure slowed down when it got there!
] is a great diversion from the customary "Sit/Roast/BS" stationary car show.
