[xx(] What do you folks do with all the wast that is used when cleaning parts and painting. I forsee this as being a trouble when we are done using them. How do you clean the rusty pot metal parts on the engine? Any easy way other than replacing them? Has anyone out there seen a spray on vinyl coating used? I am looking at a car that has it spayed ( Painted ) on the roof. I may want to take it off. [xx(][xx(][?]

I catch it in a container and take it to the transfer station (new name for a dump) where ever-cheerful* county employees take it from me.
I do the same with used motor oil.
*Cheerful that is until they catch you putting a #1 plastic tray in the #1 plastic dumpster..."Hey...that's for bottles only you stupid $%#@"...like there's a difference between trays and bottles of the same type plastic. But I digress....

Among other downsides, not being individually and personally responsible for the toxic fluids from our cars (antifreeze, oil, gas, solvent, etc.) just encourages the government to be even more involved in our hobby. It isn't THAT tough to do the right thing. (noquote:Originally posted by KevinSheen

Just like John Boyle said....
I just collect everything and pour it into my waste oil.
Then I take it to the recycle center at our county dump.
They won't take gasoline (which I found out after the wife dove the tractor into the swimming poool a few years back[:0]), but if you toss your stuff into the waste oil, they take it no sweat. My dirty solvent tank cleaner goes that way....no problem.
Just DON'T dump it on the ground.
My well is only 100' deep, and I live on a sand bar (Florida)...
It would take about 2 days for that crap to end up in my drinking water....

I remember one time (back in my 'cornfields of Illinois' days
) when a guy who was selling off his old farm property 'gave' me an old hayrack. Part of the deal was that I had to take this big old refrigerated milk vat. Seeing that it was the hayrack that I wanted ( and the milk vat could have made a neat stainless steel jacuzzi[
]), I took it home. But I didn't want the refrigerant compressor. I thought 'nahhh, there won't be any freon left in there after all these years"... Wrong-ola. I had to clear out of the room for a while as the thing spewed for 5 minutes (or so it seemed)...
I watched the news that night and didn't see anything about a hole in the ozone over northern Illinois, so I figured I was safe[|)]...

He said, heck no,I just snip the line off.HTIH (Hope The Info Helps)

Spray-on 'vinyl' tops were somewhat popular for several years starting in the mid-'60's. The one I did see removed (about 20 years ago) by an experienced body man was a real mess. He didn't want to use a grinder or wire brush for fear of warping the top. He used paint remover jelly and let it set for a long time to soften the material (I think he said it was similar to plastic body filler) then scraped it off with putty knives.
Sometimes those tops were used to hide body damage!

John, there is no easy way to do it right. If it were me, I would remove the rusty parts, media-blast (sandblast) them, prime and paint. If they are high heat parts, you can expect ordinary paint to come off of them in the future and rust to begin again. In that case, go visit http://www.por15store.com and get the paint they recommend for exhaust header type applications. AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! Because you have to follow the directions with POR-15 or it will disappoint you.
You can do everything the easy way, like the guy who vinyl painted that roof, and regret it later, or you can cry now while you do it the hard, and right, way. But you'll later be glad you did it right. And so will any future owner of that vehicle.
