Happy B-Day Matt,I took my driving test at 16 in my Dads 1970 Chev half ton, long wheelbase, six cyilinder, three on the tree.
That truck was so plain it didn't even have a radio, its only option was heavy duty suspension.
I got my license on the first try(parallel parking that rig with no power steering was fun),but I remember I felt like a king later that day when they turned me loose with it,on my OWN!What a feeling, sorta like the first time you got lai......nah,I better not say that.

You put it so well Rockne10. I do have 2 cousins (ages 6 and 7) who are really interested in them. But there should be more than that. Oh yeah, I'm to meat a 13 year old next Saturday whos dad is building him a 55 coupe. He also lives in GA. From what I've heard, he isn't as knowleagable of Studes as I am, so looks like I get to play teacher. [8D]

I could already be losing faith in ya, young one.

It breaks my heart to tell you this, Matt, but I don't think there is a chance in heck that either one of us will be around in '97. Medical science may be there for you, but it would have to advance very quickly for me to make the next '97! (I would be 150 years old!)

As far as '07 goes, you have a better chance of being there than I will. You are younger, closer, and have resources around you that I may not have. But, if we all three (you, 'Sheba, and I) make it, 'Sheba will be yours to take for a spin! You know what kind of woman she is, she will appreciate your youth. [:0] 'Sheba and I may make it to South Bend next year, but it's just too early to know right now.

Are you going to make Omaha this year? If so, chances are better that you can violate 'Sheba there. If things REALLY work out, you can have your way with Goliath, as well. He's not gay, but he responds well to manly needs, if that makes sense. [}] [}]

Somewhere, deep inside, I'm getting the message that this year might be my last really big SDC "fling." Can't say why, health, $$, loss of interest, whatever, but something is telling me that I'd better make the best of Omaha. We all have this little "inner voice," that tells us things we might not want to hear. (You may not have heard yours yet.) Hope the one I am hearing is wrong, but it is ringing in my ears loudly enough that I think I can actually here it. I'm not only listening, but am taking heed, and that's OK! [8D]

When we meet in Omaha and South Bend and Gettysburg, John, Clement and Henry will be there as well. And, if Studebakers are still meeting in '97, I think Dave and Brad, Matthew, Bob, Tom, Jeff, Richard, Don, Ted, Harry....; we'll all be there, too.[^]

Happy Birthday indeed! I can almost remember when I was 16. Who was president then? Lincoln maybe? Now that you're old enough to do so, drive carefully.

I meant 2007, not '97! But I would like to take Sheba around the block before you "quit" the car thing. I knew a guy that did that, missed him ever since too. He was a nice guy... And no, I won't make to Omaha, but South Bend, definitely... And you said that I was closer??? South GA is where I'm at.

                      Happy Belated Birthday!!!

I think it's great to have "young blood" in the Stude lovers club. My own love affair began when I took my drivers test at 15 in Alexandria, Virginia in a 1952 Champion that I borrowed from a girlfriend (easier to park than the Merc I learned in). Of course, that was only 41 years ago.

I live (retired) in North Carolina now where my 53 Starliner has her own garage along with all my tools and toys. Keep inspiring new members. I enjoy your posts along with all the older experts thoughts.

                      Regards,
                      Bob (stude53)

Correction: 51 years ago. Lost my memory just before I lost the ability to count.

Thanks for the kind words. Maybe I'll get to see your car someday, I fell in love with a 53 Starliner once, even got to take my picture with the owner and the Best of Show trophy he got with it.

And yes, I love being the 16 year old Stude nut. I know a lot about Studebakers (not bragging) and love helping peole out with them. I've got to where I can identify every model from about 1931 on up, including ALL the Hawks and Larks by year/model.[8D] Not too shabby for a kid my age...
Oh, I didn't even consider our 52 Champion to take my test in, but it's got overheating problems right now. [V]
I guess I got this disease when I was born.
