I have in South africa approximately 10 motors in various trim, mostly they are 62/63 289 or 259 motors with the Oil filter on the side of the block, I also have quite a few of the older engines in 259 and 289 as well as about 4 or 5 of the 3spd overdrive trannys with the Hurst/Fulray style shifters all in perfect reconditioned state.

To run properly on todays pump fuel (read urine)R-1 mills have to be de-tuned..oem compression is just too high...and I doubt many of "us" live just down the block from Union 76, or Sunoco Cam 2 stations where 110 leaded juice can be obtained. Soon these cars will become museum pieces, as the quality of the fuel and dictates from the "beltway" all but wipe out the hobby we all love and "live for".

        HNCadet:

John and Kathy Rodhouse (have a table at York) always seem to have rare spare parts..they recently completed their 57 Golden Hawk to a 100 point car....the engine in the Hawk was obtained from an SDC member who has one of the nine factory R-3 Avantis, maybe they can suggest where an additional 289 can be purchased.
