Went to a flea market last weekend and found a December 1953 copy of [u]Science and Mechanics</u> magazine, in which they tested a '53 Studebaker pickup truck. They had almost nothing but praise for it. The one they tested had the big Commander 6 in it, and O/D.
The article opens with a picture of the Stude bounding semi-airborne across some rough terrain. There is another great shot, although small, of the testers backing the truck up a nearly vertical slope covered with gravel. They said it performed fine.
Only paid $2 for the magazine. Well worth it for the entertainment.
