  • I think i'm in love.....

And She's BEYOOTIFUL! Saw this truck last night and am just In Awe of her beauty. I'm in the towing industry and would LOVE to have this machine for PR, but am not in the position right now, so i'll just look at the pics and drool. Anyone else have pics of vintage stude tow trucks? Evan

Impressive looking truck, but the description could be better (or at least more accurate). A 454 diesel? Wow, that would be something. But that sure looks like a Detroit Diesel 4-53 to me. A couple of the pictures are upside down or sideways, and there's no discussion of (1) how bad the rust was before it was painted, (2) why the dash was changed, (3) 2-speed rear axle (ratios?), (4) whether trans is OD, etc.

I saw that one, too, at least the thumbnail. But I was getting so drowsy I left it for later to have a look.

BTW, I got word from a friend that there is a '62 Lark for sale in Eastend, Saskatchewan. Has an Olds V8 in it, because the original engine (comes with) seized. Saw a pic, and it didn't look to be badly rusted, but paint is shot.

It's purdy alright But there's too much wrong with it to call it "restored" in my book. All the red-painted underpinnings - that's bogus. Yes, I know that's being picky[)] But still.

I'd like to know if that engine color is right for the Diesel powerplant. Does anyone know? It may well have been Detroit Diesel Green since it was an outsourced engine.[:I]

Makes me wanna go back and see if that '55 tractor-trailer rig is still in use at a local dairy farm! 224V8 - 5spd over and under. That would be a truck truck![]

Mr B -- I think that engine color is correct. There were a couple of Stude trucks with Detroit diesels at Spokane with engines painted that color.

And I agree on the red-painted underpinnings. Geez -- a Sunday newspaper and a half a roll of masking tape would have been enough to mask everything down there . . . .

              Gord,
Don't know anything about the 62 in Eastend. Is it possibly a convert? I know that there was a lark ragtop down in that part of the province, but it was REALLY rough. Any idea on when you're coming down for your new Truck in Moose Jaw Gord? Evan

We have a 1950 wrecker with the Holmes body. It's rusted out from one end to the other. A previous owner installed a 259 in it. Plans are to restore it and use it; someday...
