Looks good Lee! real good, the pictures clearly show where the heads on that Hemi interfere with the stock firewall, looks like even minor surgery will allow moving the engine aft by a few more inches, its just those danged old 'pooched' out areas of the firewall getting in the way
I was surprised to see the amount of clearance around the steering column, looks like those block-huggers will fit in there like they were custom made for a Hemi-baker. Good luck, and don't hesitate to keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks, I'm not going to use the stock steering in it... I'll go to the generic Chevy tilt column (oh my God!!!) and someone's rack and pinion steering. I have been looking at Fatman's, Phantom Auto's, and a couple guys in the NC chapter have been messing around with a R&P setup that sounds like it might be a bolt on.

I hope to have an update when I get the engine and transmission back... if nothing else to show what they look like when cleaned up and painted.

I was going to post this other item on the last thread but got scared off... in talking to the owner, he says there shouldn't be any problem using this setup.

Guess that would fall into the "Not-how-I-would-have-done-it" category to me that would kind of blow the "sleeper" image, and dilute the "shock effect" when ya pop the hood!
But that's just my opinion, its your car, you get to live with it, build it in the manner that gives you the most satisfaction.
Actually no big deal, just get an extra hood, paint it to match, and you can swap back and forth in minutes, I already have 2 extra hoods for my '62, because I want one 'stock', one 'scooped' and one 'louvered' and maybe I'll locate me another just so I to can put a big 'ol hole right in the middle of it, so that I to can become a certified member of the "hole-in-the-hood" gang.

Lee, check out Total Cost Involved (TCI). They sell IFS kits like Fatman's and they'll take your measurements to make sure it fits. If I wasn't using the C4 Corvette stuff, that's what I'd be using.

Just a suggestion on the column. The area in the dash that the column psses through is rather narrow. The factory Studebaker column is only 2" across in this area. I'm not so sure a GM column will fit that opening. I'm using an Ididit column with tilt and cruise. And with no key switch in the column, I can still use the dash mounted ignition switch without having a duplicate on the column.

Like Jesse mentioned, I'd probably go without the shaker. I like the stealth mode in letting others guess what I have. That was the reason I'm going with a Magnacharger. I wanted a roots style blower for bling without it being visible right away. I really like how that big Hemi will look in that engine bay. Good luck.

Thanks, the shaker isn't a done deal. it's a little pricey for what you get and I'm not sure how much extra work would be involved in getting the hood done. Right now it's more or less just waiting to get the engine and transmission back so we can start getting them stuffed in the car. Before I thought of that I was thinking of a louvered hood but haven't looked too hard into that... maybe just decent paint job would be best. Who knows, I'm sure I'll change my mind at least a dozen times before we get to that point. I really like what Chip Foose did on Overhaulin' with the Gambler car.

As far as the steering column goes, I probably need to look a little more before I make a decision. I don't need or necessarily want the key on the column so I can probably go with a narrower column.

Why not just cut the stock column, stick a bearing in the bottom, and have a u-joint welded on to it so you can use whatever steering setup you desire? You would have to fab a mount at the firewall but other than that no big deal, then you can keep a nice stock stealthy look. Maybe it's just a personal pet peeve but I really think that modern style columns look out of place in older cars, I expect to see a smaller diameter column.
