  • Picked up a 65 Daytona

I picked up a 65 Daytona today. Unfortunately it is sooo far gone it is only good for parts. Would have been a nice car when new- 283, auto, yellow with black roof and black bucket seat interior. I bought it for a whopping $75. I bought it primarily for the Dana 44 rear end. Can anyone tell me what gear ratio came in this rear end with the auto trans? The trans is in the trunk. If anyone near Ingersoll, Ontario needs a Borg Warner auto trans you can have it if you pick it up. The windshield looks the same as my 63-does anyone know if it will fit the 63 before I take the time to remove it?
I'll have to post pics. It's a sad sad case..

Hey Todd , way to go , sounds like you got a deal there. The rearend being an Ontario car is probably a 3:31 or a 3:54 . If there isn't a tag on it with the ratio take the cover off and you'll find it stamped in the edge of the big gear for sure. Good luck

Sorta standard issue rear was 3.31, but the tag should say. Maybe it's even a TT rear! If it has a seperate tag that says T45 or something like that, it's a TT. FURTHER!!!! - it's probably a FLANGED AXLE REAR END! That's worth about 3 or 4 times what you paid for the whole car![:0]

IIRC, the windshield will not fit a '63. When the roof was changed in '64, the windshield was made shorter, except for the convertible and station wagon, which was the same as '63. I think that I'd measure it.

We have a 65 Daytona that my uncle would probably be willing to part with; if you needed something to put the good parts on. Only problem is that it's in South Georgia...

I think I'll stick to getting my 63 done first before I take on another. It does have flanged axles but all the brake hardware is gone-all thats there are the axles with the studs. Doesn't someone sell a bolt on disc brake kit for these rear end? That might be my best route instead of trying to dig up all the drum brake hardware. I really dig those V8 emblems on the C Pillars! They aren't in too bad of shape. I also picked up a NOS cluster and speedo for my 63 from the same fellow. He has NOS doors for a 66, NOS fenders and bumpers. If anyone is interested in those email me and I can pass along his phone number. Not sure on what he wants for those items.

I need to finish my 63 Lark too. And those V-8 emblems are neat. We picked up a set for our 57 Silver Hawk at a show a while back. Those cars used them on the front fenders. We'll get around to putting them on someday...

Here are some photos of my $800 63 Project and the $75 parts car. As you can see I have a LOT of work ahead of me. My garage barely holds both cars so my first priority is getting what I need off the 66 and getting it out..
                First the parts car:

Here is the engine in the 63. It will be free to a good home with the trans!

I have the header panel/grille etc for the car

She may be ugly but she is solid!

That car sure looks familiar I don't want to mention any names but I bet you got it near Norwich By the look of those tailites I'd say it was a ' 65 not a ' 66

Say...now that you mention it you are right-it doesnt have the finned tail lights.. Oops! I fixed the title of this thread..I think you know the car but it was originally in Princeton and then ended up near Burford for the last 15-20 years sitting in a driveshed. Where are you located 2R5?

Yep, quite a fellow. His machine shop is like a trip back in time. Today he was working on an old (1920's) Rolls Royce V12. One of those guys you could sit and talk to for hours!

So, Todd- where are you at? I think I know someone who could use that dash, and some of the glass out of that '65... [8D]
