But if you use the early covers without oil fill holes on a late engine without the oil tube up front you won't have anyway og putting oil in the engine.
    Has anyone ever done that?(G)

      Bob,
I don't have a clue! You mean this cover has cross-ribs like the yellow covers?

No, but I came close once before the AHA moment kicked in.

You know, that'd be fun to do for a local car show. Slap on a set of the closed valve covers, remove the dipstick and upper tube, and cap off the lower tube. Put an older vent stack tmeporarily on the front of the block so the crankcase can breathe, and then quickly pop in the cover plate on arrival at the show.

Wait until some observant type discovers that there is no dipstick or obvious way of adding oil, and then tell them confidentially, "Well, this is one of Studebaker's experimental models that came with a sealed engine, factory-filled with a permanent fluorocarbon lubricant. The oil companies were furious, and Studebaker had to recall them all, but my uncle saved this one by telling Studebaker that it had been destroyed in a barn fire."

Betcha we could start an urban legend[}]
