ive been having trouble finding a hood emblem for my '42 commander and was just woundering if anyone could help me find one

You're talking about a pretty rare item. But when you say "ornament", are you speaking of the lucite-nosed thingy on the top of the hood OR the S-badge on the front of the hood[?]
The Antique Studebaker Club is the gang you wanna be asking this of. Nothing wrong with asking here, of course. It's just that the ASC (which focuses on the '02 thru '46 models is more likely to yield parts for a '42. Good luck!

You've got your work cut out for you. Old car swap meets, ASC classified pages, Ebay, Stude swap page - these are your best bets. There ARE several Stude-only swap meets every year - York, PA - Reedsville, PA - South Bend and the SDC/ASC national meets. These are where the rare Stude stuff surfaces.
BTW, the parts book calls it a moulding. Part number 281312.
