Sir: you are not on no soap box. I agree with you completely. My brother in law just bought a 67 Plymouth GTX factory Hemi 4-speed car. He told me he paid 28K but his wife told my wife he paid 38K. Hey I'll take a 63 GT Hawk over any of them. The people with those cars never drove a Hawk to understand what I see in them.

I don't think $28K is completely rediculous for a nicely restored old car. You certainly would have a hard time finding a new car for that price that would be as much fun. I do think that 10x that is insane. Heck I could get a new Porsche Carrera GT for that much $$! Which would I rather drive, a Carrera GT or a '57 Chev? Sorry Chevy fans...

        Rog,

It's not the value of the Chevy's themselves. It's the fact that those cars (the 57's rear quarters specifically!) have come to be the icon of the 50s. You're buying aura more than car.
For my money, (limited to be sure) you can have a Studebaker which is every bit as distinctive and 50s-ish and still have $270K in your pocket!
Besides that, you'll have something different than all the other yokels at a car show.

        Miscreant at large.

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Well, see, not having lived through the 50s, I personally don't care that much about whether or not I'm driving a 50's icon, just how wide I'm smiling sitting behind the wheel. but that's just me... guess that's why I have Studes and not shoeboxes!

(I think that a silver Porsche 550 would be way more "iconic" anyway)
