Some hogwasher wrote about this truck in this month's Turning Wheels. Says it "was some homebuilt concoction of parts and pieces that some old farmer had laying around..."

Asa Hall's collection contained one of these trucks that was reported to be the "factory prototype". I had the privilege to ride in it probably 30 some odd years ago. Very neat, but even with new exhaust, the diesel was very noisey. Who knows where it is now.

Dan... This was Asa's truck. Bo Markham got it from Sharon Hall after Asa's passing. While I haven't ridden in it, I was at Bo's place a couple weeks ago and he let me have the honor of sitting in it and starting it up. If I had any fillings in my teeth, they would have shaken out. [8D]

Here's what Bo said over on the truck forum once.

It is the 1963 Studebaker Factory built prototype 8E15 1 ton crew cab (4 dr), body modification by Armbruster out of Little Rock, Arkansas. It has the Detroit 3-53 3cyl. engine coupled to a New Process 5 OD, and 513 rear axle. In the way of options, it has power steering, power brakes, cab running lights, heater, radio. It has just over 80k documented miles on it.



Bo has everything to fix it, just needs the time. He even has an 8 ft. Studebaker "P1" bed with the side mount spare to take the place of the Reading body.

It looks well used, like any Stude should. 80k miles is a great number for something like that and I hope it can go to another 80k miles.

Thank goodness it's survived. You just never know. The old saying,"what goes around comes around" I guess would work here. I'm sure Bo has good plans for it, considering it IS the only ONE. Thanks for the update.

I don't know about the museum thing. I think it should be driven. If it were mine I would drive it all I could.
