I found an article in a 1977 Avanti Owner's Assiciation publication that was written by a tennis pro (Stan Briggs) who coached Sherwood Egbert and his family at the Bel Air country club in the 60's .Briggs, who owned a turquoise '63 Avanti, tells of having begun to play with Sherwood Egbert in 1965,at the advice of Mr.Egbert's doctor, prescribing exercise for him.Briggs subsequently describes a frail Sherwood Egbert offering to sell his BLACK Avanti (with a built-in tape recorder and tape deck) to Briggs in 1968.Makes me wonder if the "switched" serial number Avanti (4131-which describes a black color in the build sheet ) is the "real" Egbert Avanti...The Avanti at auction mentions nothing of the car being auctioned ever being black,or having had those built in features....Anyone have any thoughts?
