Are there any Wagonaire third row seats out there?

I was just wondering how realistic it is to hope to find a rear-facing third row seat to replace the spare tire in a Wagonaire? I'm looking to buy a Wagonaire, but often drive my current car, a 61' Corvair Greenbrier Sportswagon (van) on road-trips or camping with large groups of friends. I'd really like not to have to go from 9 passenger capability down to 5 or 6, and would really love the extra two seats in the back of a Wagonaire. Are there any of these parts still out there if I purchased a Wagonaire that had the spare tire option? Is there any chance of finding one to swap out, or is this a total pipe dream? Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you really want to try driving around with 8-9 people in a Wagonaire. Mine feels more than full enough with 5 or 6 people, and sits low in the back even with heavy duty rear springs and 205-75R15 tires at 35 lbs on 6-inch wide Ford rims. If you want the seat as an interesting accessory, OK, but I'd rather have a spare tire in the well. As I remember, the Wagonaires with rear seats came with self-sealing tires - adequate for a small nail in the tread, but that's about all.

Realistically, the rear seat would simply allow me to ride around with 6 people in the Wagonaire more comfortably. My Greenbrier has three bench seats but we never ride three deep on a bench, it's a little to close for road trips. Plus, we always need a little room on the benches for dogs, there's usually two or three of those in there with us. As for the spare, that's what AAA is for. I know Murphy's law will likely give me a flat the day after I take the spare out, but I have never had a flat tire on my own car (though I've probably changed over a dozen tires on strangers cars in parking lots.)

I emailed Stude Int., they said they didn't pick up any of the interior stuff from SASCO. They did give me the name of someone to try who took most of the interior parts and pieces, but I haven't had a chance to call him yet. Thought I would consult the wisdom of the board before I go tilting at windmills.

I sold one of those to a fellow in Washington several years ago. It came with a folding step that mounted on the tailgate. That seat wouldn't be comfortable for one adult, let alone two.[}] They're really small for two children even. Put the dogs in the cargo area and the adults on decent seats with thicker, more comfortable padding.

Try Will Sanders out in Colorado. He bought the upholstry from Reynolds. There was a few of these at SASCO when I went up last fall. Chances are good that there was still a few when he moved the stuff.

From what I've seen, they wouldn't be hard to make. Basically cut-to-fit plywood with basic upholstery shaped to fit down into the spare hole when lowered, and a couple of strap hinges. I bet Will has some, but if not look at some pictures; you may just decide to make your own.

You're quite right about the upholstry, Bob. However, the seat also included a stamped sheet-metal partition/centre brace that supported the whole thing and divided the spare-well in half. One must also keep in mind that the only foot-room in this proposition is half of the spare-well.
